To me, a\u00a0French manicure<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 whether the\u00a0classic white tip<\/a>\u00a0or something a bit cooler, like\u00a0cat-eye<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 strikes the perfect balance between timeless and elevated, and it takes a lot to sway me from it. But the trending \u201creverse\u201d French manicure might just change that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is the reverse French manicure?\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2>\n

The reverse French manicure\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0exactly new, but we have\u00a0Cardi B<\/a>\u2019s Super Bowl look to thank for its recent comeback. Her nail artist,\u00a0Coca Michelle<\/a>, turned the classic\u00a0French manicure on its head<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 literally \u2014 by\u00a0flipping the gold tip so it curved around the base of the nail, right at the cuticle.\u00a0Since then, Google searches for \u201creverse French manicure\u201d have increased by 110%, as it seems we\u2019re ready to channel Cardi B and try something different.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Natalia Mercedes<\/a>, nail artist and founder of\u00a0Sad Girl Nails Studio<\/a>\u00a0in New York City, is well-versed in the art of the reverse French manicure. \u201cThe reverse French is essentially a flipped take on the classic,\u201d she explains. \u201cInstead of highlighting the tip of the nail, the design hugs the curve of the cuticle with either a thin, delicate line or a thicker, more graphic arc,\u201d \u2014 exactly like this beautiful set by nail artist Fern Barron<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
