When I heard that Summer Fridays was stepping into\u00a0fragrance<\/a>, it\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0exactly come as a shock \u2014 but it certainly\u00a0made my day. You see, the brand has\u00a0a track record\u00a0of perfectly judged scents. Its most recognizable\u00a0bestseller,\u00a0Lip Butter Balm<\/a>, already comes in a lineup of flavors that rivals an ice cream shop, while body products like the\u00a0Summer Silk Nourishing Body Lotion<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 with its vanilla-floral notes \u2014 hint at a love for gourmand, dessert-inspired\u00a0scents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So\u00a0when I say I could\u00a0immediately\u00a0picture (or\u00a0maybe smell?) what a Summer Fridays perfume might be like, I\u00a0mean it as a compliment. When I think of Summer Fridays, words like \u201cdreamy,\u201d \u201ccozy,\u201d and \u201csoft\u201d come to mind, thanks to products like\u00a0Cloud Dew Moisturizer<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Dream Lip Oil<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0the kind of mood that practically begs to be translated into scent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The only question was whether it would live up to that vision.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As the name suggests,\u00a0Summer\u00a0Fridays\u2019\u00a0Sunlit Vanilla\u00a0Eau de Parfum<\/a>\u00a0combines\u00a0solar notes\u00a0(\u201csummer\u201d is one half of the brand\u2019s name, after all)\u00a0of tropical coconut and citrus\u00a0with\u00a0gourmand\u00a0caramelized cr\u00e8me\u00a0br\u00fbl\u00e9e\u00a0and\u00a0warm\u00a0vanilla.\u00a0Top notes of citrus bergamot and heart notes of heady coconut add dimension\u00a0and complexity in a sea of trendy\u00a0vanilla scents<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Lauren Gores Ireland and Marianna Hewitt, cofounders of Summer Fridays,\u00a0Sunlit Vanilla<\/a> was a long time in the making:\u00a0\u201cAs founders,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0always loved vanilla,\u201d\u00a0they tell me, adding,\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0why we chose it as the original Lip Butter Balm flavor\u00a0and scent. Six years later,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0still one of our best sellers,\u00a0and that nostalgia and love from our community felt like the natural place to begin.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The best way I can describe\u00a0Sunlit Vanilla<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0cookie-dough-meets-vanilla extract\u00a0mixed with\u00a0expensive sunscreen\u00a0\u2014\u00a0in other words, utterly delicious and addictive in the best way.\u00a0On my skin,\u00a0vanilla\u00a0shines as the primary note, but as it dries down, the coconut\u00a0and\u00a0citrus\u00a0linger\u00a0for a result that has a nostalgic, comforting quality\u00a0of childhood beach days. (It reminds me\u00a0of what\u00a0a vanilla version of\u00a0Vacation\u2019s namesake eau de toilette<\/a>, a\u00a0fine fragrance interpretation<\/a>\u00a0of the brand\u2019s beloved sunscreen\u00a0lotions, would smell like.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you ask me,\u00a0it\u2019s something of a masterpiece, but according to the brand,\u00a0it\u2019s tough to get vanilla fragrances just right:\u00a0\u201cVanilla is having a huge moment, but a lot of interpretations lean very heavy where you\u2019d only want to wear it during\u00a0fall or\u00a0winter or in the evening\u00a0[because]\u00a0they go very sweet,\u201d says\u00a0Ireland and Hewitt. \u201cWe wanted ours to feel like sunlight on skin:\u00a0warm, radiant, a\u00a0little golden.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

And\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0exactly how it feels, except it\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0as\u00a0fleeting as sunny weather;\u00a0I found that\u00a0Sunlit Vanilla<\/a>\u00a0lasted\u00a0impressively long after applying\u00a0\u2014\u00a0almost like\u00a0how your skin and hair\u00a0still\u00a0smell\u00a0softly of sunscreen and salt water\u00a0after\u00a0a beach day.\u00a0I also love how beautiful the bottle is, with the vintage-inspired gold cap and fluted glass detailing. Given the\u00a0initial\u00a0hype from Summer Friday stans, all signs point to early bestseller status, right up\u00a0there\u00a0with the\u00a0Lip Butter Balms.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Summer Fridays\u2019 debut fragrance is\u00a0launching exclusively on the Sephora app on\u00a0March\u00a016 and at\u00a0Sephora<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0Summer\u00a0Fridays website<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0March\u00a017,\u00a0but early reviews have already begun trickling in. One Redditor\u00a0received\u00a0a\u00a0sneaky\u00a0Sephora sample of the fragrance<\/a>\u00a0in an online order, which prompted\u00a0eager comments from people clamoring to know more.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been searching for a perfect vanilla scent that isn\u2019t too sweet or\u00a0heavy,\u00a0and this is absolutely perfect,\u201d shares another\u00a0lucky commenter<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThe smell reminds me of lying on a towel by the water and staring up into the sun,\u201d\u00a0describes\u00a0a third<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
